The media and we should have talked more about the deaths in the Maha Kumbh Mela stampede.
There was a stampede in New Delhi Railway Station, a Nepali girl died by suicide at KIIT, and on the same day, when Assam’s CM Himanta Biswa Sarma filed an FIR against Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, Manipur’s CM resigned.
Manipur continues to struggle for peace.
Yet, instead of highlighting these serious incidents, the media is busy shouting about Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps.
They have turned deaths into a joke and are giving death threats to those who made jokes.
Jokes are being treated like national issues, and real issues are being treated like jokes.
I agree that what Ranveer said was 100% wrong. It wasn’t even original; it was a copied line from an old video. But still, was it really necessary to file an FIR and give him death threats?
Apoorva Mukhija just replied using the same word a contestant had used. For that, she’s receiving death and rape threats. Isn’t that strange? Isn’t that wrong?
If someone makes a joke you don’t like, will you kill them? How will you justify killing someone over a few lines in a private show? Who would be the bigger criminal then?
I saw some comments on Instagram saying the show was bad and couldn’t be watched with family.
But the show was for members only, and it was 18+. People paid to watch it. Why would you even watch it with your family? You don’t watch 18+ movies, adult content or porn with your family, right?
If you don’t like it, just criticize it, tweet about it, but don’t hurt anyone or do something wrong. After that, just move on.
I didn’t like what Ranveer Allahbadia said either. It was unnecessary and made no sense at that time. But I just ignored it.
There are far bigger issues happening in the world, yet we are stuck discussing a comedy show. Why? Have you ever thought about it?
Real rapists are roaming free. No action is being taken against those giving rape threats. But the video editor of India’s Got Latent, who was just doing his job, became a target of the media too. Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia are being treated like top criminals in India. That’s the real joke.
Now, the government might introduce the Broadcast Bill to regulate social media content and ban anything they don’t like. ¹,²,³
Was all this outrage and media attention just a way to bring the Broadcast Bill?
Just imagine, I might not even be able to write this article later. That’s why I wrote it now. By the way, an FIR can still be filed against me — or against anyone. I just hope the easily offended don’t come across this article. Yeah, there’s an atmosphere of fear.
